EXPRESSION OF LIFE
Expression of Life was the first Inspiration I
wrote. It came to me after a meditation one sunny spring morning
in beautiful Carmel, California way back in 1990. At the time, I
didn’t realise that this was the first of over one hundred -
I just thought it was a nice piece of writing. It was only after
I had read it to a few people along the way (and some of the
other writings that followed) that I began to see this as a
rather enlightening collection of words.
Still slow to catch on, it took me a couple of years before I chose 17 of my favourite inspirations and recorded them, together with beautiful sound effects and music.
And even slower to realise the immense usefulness of these
Inspirations, the rest spent their time cooped up in a filing
cabinet drawer until recently, when I decided to share them with
my web site visitors.
The Universe speaks to us in all kinds of ways. The purest way
(but often the least followed) is via the little voice that prods
away inside. It’s the one that comes up with really good
advice – although it often defies all logic. And it’s
very often ignored, to the point of becoming unknown by many.
When the little inner voice fails, the God Force will give us
other clues - usually becoming more and more obvious - via
dreams, other people, books, readings, sign posts, and sometimes
even smacks on the nose. Yes, that was at a time when I
definitely hadn’t heeded my inner voice. Mind you, I learned
a lot from the nose-smacking experience too, so that wasn’t
wasted either.
If you do actually sit down and listen to the little inner
voice, you will notice that it speaks to you patiently, honestly
and kindly (okay, it might put "you dope" at the end of
the sentence). But if you follow it (a bit of trust is sometimes
called for here), you find that it will always take you, in a
flowing way, to a situation of highest good, healing and
happiness for all concerned.
As I said earlier, it’s easy to ignore. You know, like
when you’re expecting a guest and you decide to do a last
minute tidy up? So, with eight-month old child under one arm, you
empty the trash can and cart the rubbish out to the wheelie bin.
As you step through the back door, you push the fly screen door
shut, to prevent the kitchen filling up with nasty little buzzing
things. As you do, the little inner voice goes "If you slam
the screen door shut, the lock will catch". In a hurry, you
go "Yeah, right – it’s never done it before, why
should it do that now?" and slam the screen door shut. On
the way back into the house, you look at your watch and realise
you’ve just got time to brush your hair, change your blouse
and put your eight-month old down somewhere he won’t make
too much of a mess before the guest arrives. You push the screen
door, expecting to march straight in. You come to a sudden halt.
The screen door doesn’t budge. It’s locked. The little
inner voice does a silent impression (patiently, honestly and
kindly) of "I told you so, you dope". And you run
around the garden, swearing, looking for a big stick to break
into the house with.
That actually happened to me a few weeks ago, and my screen
door now has two stick-sized holes in it where I single-handed
(literally) broke into and entered my own home. When my guest
arrived, my hair was a mess, I had baby food smeared on my top
and I was still carrying my son (patient little thing), under a
very stiff arm. Now, if I’d bothered to heed the little
inner voice, you can imagine how cool, calm and collected I could
have appeared.
When the little inner voice does speak to us, sometimes
it’s giving us practical advice, as above. And sometimes it
asks us to listen to our heart. Now that can be a scary thing to
do - because our heart plays the tune of our Soul. And our Soul
is unique and has its own collection of experiences it wants to
live out while it is resident in this body.
What very often happens is we start out following our
heart’s yearnings and all is exciting and enlivening. We are
glad to be alive; we radiate our happiness for all to see and are
enthusiastic about our future. Then we get caught in the
experience. It might be a job. It might be a relationship. But
somewhere along the line we stop dancing away to the tune of our
Soul and start marching in time to the beat of a different drum.
The tune of the company. Or the song of the partner. We get so
caught up in their rhythm we stop hearing our own and sooner or
later end up feeling like we’ve lost the beat. We don’t
recognise the rhythm. We hate the sound of the song. We become
resentful. We get bored. We blame the other person for our
unhappiness and we may even suffer from some dis-ease. (Or get
bopped on the nose). At this point, we have ground to a halt.
Life isn’t fun any more. And we might even be calling,
"Scotty - beam me up!"
So what to do? Go back and listen to the little inner voice.
Or if you’re really out of touch with yourSelf, or are so
confused or anxious that you can’t hear it clearly, go seek
out the God Force’s advice in another way. Ask your question
– "Hey, God Force, how do I get out of this mess and
find happiness again?" – then wait for your answer. It
may come in the form of a book that falls off a shelf on to your
head. It may come as a dream. Your neighbour might mention
something that coincidentally puts you back on track. Or you may
feel the need to consult to a counsellor or practitioner.
Whatever form it takes, the Universe will answer your request for
help. Always trust that. It’s a given.
The next few steps you have to take may be hard or scary. It
all depends on how far away you’ve strayed from your
Soul’s song. But if you truly want happiness and you truly
want what’s best for yourself and everyone else concerned,
listen to your guidance and do what has to be done. You may have
a deep desire to try a new venture, but think you’re
indispensable at your job and that you’re letting your boss
down. But they may want to change the job position which would be
more suitable to someone else anyway. Remember, your Soul’s
song isn’t a solo. It’s a part of an incredible melody
that is made up of every living being in the Universe. And the
melody isn’t discordant either. Well, it is when people
don’t listen to their inner Conductor.
When you do listen to your inner Conductor, you will find your
life becomes a smoother, more enjoyable ride. You will find you
are dancing the steps that bring you deep joy and satisfaction.
And you also find that you are naturally creative.
"I’m not creative", I hear you say. "My
teacher said I couldn’t paint a thing at school and I got F-
for all my art assignments." Well, I’d like to ask
you if you’ve ever put some flowers in a vase, or created a
delicious (edible) meal from what was left in your fridge. Or
maybe you found a way of keeping the top shelf of your bookcase
from collapsing by hammering a nail underneath the back bracket.
Perhaps you’ve had a baby. Or you painted your living room a
bright new colour scheme. Maybe you wrote some nice words in a
birthday card. If you answered "yes" to any of the
above, or can relate to what I’m saying, then take credit
– acknowledge it – you’re creative.
You see, you don’t have to be a Van Gogh. You don’t
have to be a Bach. You just have to be you. And in the way you
live your life, the way you put your words together, the way you
make someone else’s life brighter by smiling at them –
whatever gives you joy – is your way of being creative.
And in so doing, you are living your life the way it was meant to
be lived – as your beautiful expression of life.
Taking this one step further, the more of us who live from the
inside out – listening to our hearts, our inner voices,
doing what we each love best – the more harmony will exist
between us. We simply won’t have the time or the inclination
to fight any more wars and conflict will be resolved creatively.
Imagine how peaceful the world will be. That’s what I
want. Don’t you?
Expression of Life
The creative expression of Life is all that matters here.
Let us not find ourselves entrapped in worldly fears or overcome by grief. Let us instead rejoice for the wonders of God’s creation.
In this lifetime many will be fulfilled through following our hearts’ desires. For the heart is the doorway to all other dimensions and realities and it is through our hearts that God’s wonder is felt.
So rejoice. Rejoice in the wonder of God’s creation. Rejoice in yourselves as part of God’s creation.
Think only of this. You are a special expression of God’s radiant beauty. And let this light shine through you and find unique expression through your individual Soul.
Fear not separation as all things are bound together as dancers in the intricate Dance of Life.
Allow yourself to experience the wonder of your own beautiful expression in the Dance.
Feel the music within your heart. Allow yourself to be uplifted and dance with the angels on wings of light as you soar through the radiant sea of golden sky.
Feel God’s heavenly music pulsating through your being.
Follow the strings of the violin of love back to your Divine Music Maker and enter His Mind, His Heart, the Origin of the sound.
Catch yourself creating part of the melody and marvel at the wonder of it All.
Journey among the stars and see the effect of your music as it plays in harmony with your celestial family, twinkling and dancing with life and dancing in celebration of our oneness.
For indeed, all things are wonderful. All experiences are bliss.
And as Soul dances with Soul, the unique blends join in the symphony of God’s beautiful Expression of Life.
